Can you hear that? It's the world's smallest fiddle playing the world's saddest song. [ QUOTE ]
So you don't think the whole consolidation issue is driving the out of county student issue? If you don't you are either lying or very naive

[/ QUOTE ] Appy was griping about what was really the issue with the WCSB ," head in the sand" sort of thing. Ya wanna look into my eyes and see if you can tell what I'm thinking? Stupid or lying. You guys from DC complain as much as anyone. And like you said, "Ain't my money". Did you notice the flood program , the Fed program that is/was gonna be free has been slashed by congress? The free school deal? Wonder how DC is gonna explain this, taking till the funds weren't available to make a move. Guess DC will have to ship the kids out or pay for it. BTW I did not say stupid I said naive and I do not think you are either stupid or naive.

So you are just bending the whole situation to fit your viewpoint. Nothing wrong with that (if you are a politician LOL)

I have no clue what DC is going to do but you are more than welcome to send money to help support it

And at least as long as Wise County is not charging tuition to Out of County students I always have the option to say the heck with the DC school system and let Wise Co. subsidize my kids

BTW this started out as a good thread with a relevant issue if you don't like me fine if you don't think out of County students are a drain on Wise Co. defend your POV if you are a OOC student or the parent of and OOC student give us your take on the situation. You can educate the majority here and My views at least are not set in stone but it will take more than sniping to change my mind on the subject

At some point and time spending vs. actual cost and gain must be viewed.

Our current local administration and local, state and federal government is seeing that.

We all know that sooner or later. Things has to change and be fixed. Is it what we desire. Maybe not. But it may be what is in the best interest, to make things work smoother and run more efficiently. And at a cost we can all live with, especially the children coming up.

Right now i think you are seeing a lot of what the future holds.
Norton is having a hard time paying for it's school system. And is even thinking of moving 6th and 7th graders into the highschool.

This is a very bad move. Due to age differences. If this is just to fill empty space, and keep from saying we can't afford our school. Time to not let kids be caught in a mess. Which is what will happen, putting 6th graders in with 12th graders.

I think Norton should do some considering and some talk to the county.

A few nice new schools and everyone on board, may not be to bad in a few years. But it has to be done right. Planning, money and a payment plan in place and something all can live with for 40-50 yrs.

Well if not as our many forms of government is learning. Don't over stretch yourself. You'll find yourself in a mess. Or a few messes and no clear answers.

Everyone i think in reality knows what is gonna work better. We as human being and loyal to our communities, no one wants to see or let go of something, that has identifying qualities. But how long do we stand in the door way.

The people of Appalachia are called bias and proud. What are the people of Norton called? 6th graders in with 12th graders to hold a school together and try to be able to pay for it? If that is sound. Questioning those at Appy and other places, well you prove us right. This is it's own double edge sword. As we are now seeing from others, who refuse to also say they will not let go.

Norton to send 6th and 7th graders to highschool

Thanks for the post you are 100% right on the money. Our school problems in SWVA did not happen over night and a quick fix can and will not work I am done questioning when and if schools are going to close. Norton seems to be in a bit of trouble (I agree 6th graders with 12th graders does not sound like a great Idea) Most of the schools in the reagion need something done and hopefully it will be more than a fresh coat of paint and a new Study

Group screwin's are out. I'm gonna try not to be so argumentative , but the Dawg ain't going anywhere. PSS [ QUOTE ]

Glad we all agree so back to the point do you think Out of County students should have to pay tuision? I don't know if they should or not I do think that there will be some that use this issue to promote there own agenda and IMHO push the whole consoladation issue back onto the front page. It is my hope that with the new Powerplant locating in wise alone with (possablely) more coal mineing opertunitys it can infuse Wise Co. with enough bump in tax base to do more that patchwork fixes.

[/ QUOTE ] I have some feelings on the OOC students. But I'm still of the opinion that perhaps if the County admins were to address this , just from the numbers standpoint , it might be easier to settle. But like I said before, I'm hard as hell on "Hidden Agendas" and I'm not going anywhere. I'm considering moving to a different voting district and running for the next board seat there. Are you of the opinion that the problem is over stated? That could very well be the case in the county as a whole but StPaul is another matter I know when i lived in Castlewood it was joked that Castlewood would be the size of Lebanon (a AA school at the time) if all the students that were supost to go there went there. Now I have no dought that it was not that bad BUT it does go to show that this OOC students thing is not an issue that had just started

I had not head much news in this new SB and Super How do they seem to be doing so far?

I think after some "house cleaning" this new group is doing the best they can with the cards they were dealt to start with. Basham finally put the cards on the table and some of the followers finally began to question real motives. The study he used at the last was hard to get done, since it showed ALL the high schools had come to the point where the classrooms were undersized, really putting the whole situation in terms all could understand. With more jobs, it seems as if the county might need to really look at some 5-10 year fixes, since the new jobs with the promised powerplant should add money and in a short time it should become clear if the coal market is going to stay up, right now might not be the best time to borrow money for a market that might increase considerably in 5 years. Yeah, I know, it is never easy to spend that much and "if not now ,when?" is a good question. If they wanna lead fine, .......but they know the track record. I'm not unreasonable, but I'm not as stupid as I look. This is when I really like the " Freedom of Information Act."
